The Heart and Soul behind Mordéa Home

The Heart and Soul behind Mordéa Home

Is it too late to start over at 40?

Have you ever felt that starting over, especially after 40, is an impossible dream? What if the very challenges that brought you to your knees could also be the foundation for your greatest triumph? Meet Noelle, the visionary behind Mordéa Home – a resilient mother and proud multicultural Australian who proves that it's never too late to rebuild, redefine, and create something truly beautiful.

A Humble Beginning and Early Struggles

It started with a vision. Noelle aspired to transform her innate love for fashion and design into a range of beautifully simplistic fashion pieces that are Australian-first. In 2015, Noelle built her first business from scratch and launched Morrisday the Label by herself from her humble Sydney apartment. Just like any other small business, growth started slow. Noelle faced skepticism, logistical hurdles and financial burden, however, she refused to give up on her dreams so easily. Year after year, her efforts slowly paid off, she hit new milestones such as forming her own team, global launch, and pieces worn by global fashion icons.

2019 was the peak of Morrisday the Label, a global successful business loved by many. But it all came crashing down in 2020 when COVID-19 hit. Sales were at an all-time low, resources were stretched thin and she inevitably parted ways with her team. That moment in time, she felt like she lost everything she worked so hard for. Soon after, she gave birth to her son, pulling the brakes on her business and dreams. Noelle faced the biggest mental struggles yet, but with the support of her husband, she focused on her new chapter in life, becoming a mother.

Is it too late to pivot?

Don’t get me wrong, Morrisday the Label is still alive to this day. Throughout motherhood, Noelle kept the business running and also spent a lot of time looking at her home and reflecting. “What if I could make products for homes that are multifunctional and aesthetically pleasing?” However, one fleetful idea comes with many more doubtful ones.

“I spent so much time on my first business, starting again will be hard.”

“What if I lose more money than I gain?”

“Am I too old to start over?”

YES, you spent a lot of time on your first business, but that also means you also spent a lot of time building your experience and knowledge. YES, there is always a risk of losing money, but if you never take the risk, you’ll never achieve your dreams. And NO, you are NEVER too old to start over and here’s proof…

A Home Built with Love

In 2024, Noelle turned her dreams into reality by taking everything she knew from her fashion and design background by launching Mordéa Home, hitting each milestone within months, instead of years. Today, Mordéa Home stands as a testament to that journey. Every piece we offer is chosen with intention, every collection curated with reflection of Noelle’s values and deep understanding of what makes a house a home.

Want to Be Organised But Don’t Know Where to Start? Try These 5 Easy Habits

Want to Be Organised But Don’t Know Where to Start? Try These 5 Easy Habits

Feeling buried under clutter and endless tasks? This blog shows how a few small daily habits can create big change—no major overhaul required. Discover 5 simple practices like making your bed, 10-minute decluttering, and reviewing your calendar that bring calm, order, and focus to your life. Start small today and enjoy a more organised, stress-free tomorrow.

Why Organising Your Home is Secretly a Form of Self-Care (and How to Start)

Why Organising Your Home is Secretly a Form of Self-Care (and How to Start)

In our fast-paced lives, self-care often conjures images of spa days, meditation, or indulging in hobbies. While these are certainly valid forms of self-care, there's another, often overlooked, practice that quietly contributes to your well-being: organising your home. Far from being a chore, decluttering and creating order in your living space can be a profoundly therapeutic and empowering act.

The Mental Benefits of an Organised Space

Think about how you feel when you walk into a cluttered room versus a tidy one. A chaotic environment can feel overwhelming, triggering feelings of stress and anxiety. Conversely, an organised space can promote a sense of calm and clarity.

  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Visual clutter can be mentally distracting, making it harder to focus and relax. A decluttered space removes these visual stressors, allowing your mind to unwind.

  • Improved Focus and Productivity: When your environment is organised, your mind is clearer. This allows for better concentration, whether you're working, reading, or simply enjoying your home.

  • Enhanced Mood: There's a subtle but significant psychological uplift that comes from having a well-ordered space. It can boost your sense of accomplishment and control.

  • Better Sleep: A serene bedroom free from clutter can significantly improve sleep quality, helping you wake up feeling refreshed.

How Home Organisation Connects to Self-Care

Self-care is about nurturing your mind, body, and spirit. Organising your home directly contributes to this by:

  • Creating a Sanctuary: Your home should be a refuge from the outside world. By organising it, you transform it into a peaceful sanctuary where you can truly relax and recharge.

  • Promoting Mindfulness: The process of organising encourages you to be present and mindful. Each decision you make about what to keep or discard is an act of intentionality.

  • Fostering a Sense of Control: In a world that often feels chaotic, having control over your immediate environment can be incredibly empowering.

  • Encouraging Healthy Habits: An organised home can lead to healthier habits, such as preparing meals in a tidy kitchen or exercising in a clear space.

Ready to Start Your Self-Care Organisation Journey?

It doesn't have to be overwhelming! Here are some practical steps to begin your journey:

1. Start Small

Don't try to organise your entire house in one weekend. Choose one small area, like a single drawer, a shelf, or your bedside table. Success in a small area will motivate you to tackle more.

2. Declutter Ruthlessly (But Kindly)

  • The "Keep, Donate, Trash" Method: Go through items one by one. Ask yourself: Do I use it? Do I love it? Does it serve a purpose? If not, consider letting it go.

  • One In, One Out: To prevent new clutter, adopt this rule: whenever you bring a new item into your home, get rid of an old one.

3. Create Zones

Designate specific areas for specific activities. For example, a reading nook, a dedicated workspace, or a charging station for electronics. This helps maintain order.

4. Invest in Smart Storage Solutions

  • Baskets and Bins: Great for corralling smaller items and making shelves look tidier.

  • Drawer Dividers: Keep drawers organised and prevent items from getting lost.

  • Vertical Storage: Utilise wall space with shelves or hooks to maximise storage.

5. Establish Daily Habits

  • The 10-Minute Tidy: Spend just 10 minutes each day putting things back in their place. This prevents clutter from accumulating.

  • Before-Bed Reset: Take a few minutes before bed to tidy up common areas. Waking up to a clean space is a wonderful way to start the day.

Resources to Help You

  • Books: "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo, "Homebody: A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave" by Joanna Gaines.

  • Online Communities: Search for online groups or forums dedicated to home organisation for tips and motivation.

Organising your home is not just about having a tidy space; it's about creating an environment that supports your well-being and allows you to thrive. So, next time you're feeling overwhelmed, instead of reaching for a distraction, consider reaching for a trash bag. You might be surprised at how truly self-caring it feels.

Best Space-Saving Home Items for Renters Who Move Often

Best Space-Saving Home Items for Renters Who Move Often

Moving can be a hassle, especially when you've accumulated a lot of belongings. For renters who frequently change residences, optimising space isn't just about decluttering; it's about smart living and making each move less stressful, all while being mindful of landlord rules and avoiding permanent alterations. The key? Investing in versatile, space-saving home items that are easy to pack, transport, and set up in your new rental.

Here's a curated list of the best space-saving home items designed for the nomadic renter:

  1. Foldable Furniture

When you're on the go, solid, bulky furniture is your enemy. Enter foldable furniture!

  • Folding Desks: Perfect for a quick workspace setup that can be tucked away when not in use, and won't leave marks on walls or floors.

  • Folding Chairs: Essential for extra seating that can be collapsed and stored flat, making them ideal for small rental spaces.

  • Convertible Sofas/Sleeper Chairs: These pieces serve multiple purposes, offering seating by day and a bed for guests (or yourself!) by night, maximising the utility of your limited rental footprint.

2. Nesting & Stackable Cookware

Kitchens in new rental apartments can vary wildly in size. Don't get caught with pans that don't fit!

  • Nesting Pots and Pans: Designed to fit inside each other, saving significant cabinet space which is a lifesaver in often-cramped rental kitchens.

  • Stackable Food Storage Containers: Keep your pantry organised and reduce clutter with containers that stack neatly, optimising every shelf.

3. Under-Bed Storage Solutions

Utilise every inch of available space, including the often-forgotten area beneath your bed, without needing to install anything.

  • Wheeled Under-Bed Bins: Easy to pull out and access, these bins are perfect for storing linens, seasonal clothing, or even shoes.

  • Vacuum Storage Bags: Compress bulky items like duvets, pillows, and winter coats, making them tiny and easy to store or transport, freeing up precious closet space.

4. Collapsible Laundry Baskets & Hampers

Say goodbye to rigid, space-hogging laundry bins that can scratch floors or block doorways.

  • Pop-Up Laundry Hampers: These can be folded flat when empty, ideal for small bathrooms or closets, and are gentle on surfaces.

  • Collapsible Drying Racks: Air-dry your clothes without sacrificing permanent floor space, easily storable when not in use.

5. Foldable Space Saving Storage Items

This category deserves a special mention for its incredible utility in packing and unpacking, and for their renter-friendly nature.

  • Collapsible Wardrobe Organisers: Fabric shelves that hang in your closet but can be flattened for moving. No drilling required.

  • Foldable Storage Bins and Cubes: Perfect for shelving units, these fabric or lightweight plastic bins can be folded flat when empty, making them incredibly easy to pack and reassemble in your new home. Use them for clothes, toys, books, or anything that needs corralling, without adding permanent fixtures.

  • Reusable Grocery Bags (Foldable): While not strictly "home" items, having a few sturdy, foldable bags for groceries or last-minute packing is a lifesaver, and they take up virtually no space when not in use.

6. Non-Damaging Wall-Mounted Organisers

When floor space is limited, look up! Renters need solutions that don't damage walls.

  • Adhesive Hooks/Shelves: Use strong, removable adhesive hooks or small floating shelves that can be easily removed without leaving residue or holes.

  • Over-the-Door organisers: Great for shoes, toiletries, or pantry items, these utilise vertical space without any wall modifications.

  • Tension Rod Solutions: Use tension rods inside cabinets or between walls for hanging towels, creating makeshift shelves, or organising cleaning supplies without permanent installation.

The Bottom Line

For renters who move often, every item in your home should earn its keep and be easy to transport without violating your lease. By choosing smart, space-saving, and particularly foldable space saving storage items and non-damaging solutions, you can streamline your packing process, minimise moving costs, and make your new rental space feel like home, no matter how small or temporary it is. Happy moving!
